Teaching Computational Thinking (K-5) Microcredential

Empower your students to think like problem-solvers. Teaching Computational Thinking (K-5) Microcredential is a self-paced, online professional development program designed to help educators integrate computational thinking into their classrooms. No prior coding experience is required.

Developed by faculty at Teachers College, Columbia University, this microcredential offers a series of courses organized by grade band, allowing educators to focus on the content most relevant to their students. The microcredential gives teachers the conceptual grounding and practical tools to bring computational thinking to life in their classrooms. It will take approximately 12 hours to complete the full microcredential, and participants have two months to complete it at their own pace.

The microcredential launches November 1 with courses for grades K–5, with grades 6–12 to follow in Spring 2027. New York State educators who complete the K-5 program are eligible to receive 12 CTLE credit hours.
